A note on tradition
Lion’s Mane has a centuries-long history of use as both a food and medicinal mushroom in traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean medicine, particularly for digestive and gastrointestinal complaints; its modern reputation for supporting cognition and nerve health is based primarily on more recent scientific research.
Cognitive function (memory, clarity)
Type: Human trials — Evidence: Medium “Lion’s Mane has shown promising cognitive effects in a few small trials, particularly in people with mild cognitive impairment, while a recent trial in healthy young adults found no overall cognitive benefit. Alzheimer's disease
Type: Human trials — Evidence: Medium Multiple RCTs (randomized control trials) show real changes in immune cell activity, including in older women specifically. Hasn't been shown to actually reduce how often you get sick. [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9914031/]
Mood, anxiety, depression
Type: Human trial — Evidence: Medium An 8-week study of 77 overweight/obese adults with mood or sleep problems reported improvements in depression, anxiety, and sleep after taking Lion’s Mane, but the study had no placebo control and participants were also following a low-calorie diet, so the improvements cannot be confidently attributed to Lion’s Mane. Gut health
Type: Lab/animal studies — Evidence: Weak Preclinical studies in mice suggest that Lion’s Mane can modulate gut bacteria, support the intestinal barrier, and reduce gut inflammation, but evidence that these effects translate to meaningful improvements in human gut health remains limited.
Antimicrobial / antioxidant activity

Cancer
Type: Lab studies — Evidence: Weak Erinacine A has shown anticancer activity against certain cancer cells in laboratory studies, including inducing apoptosis in human colorectal cancer cells. Nerve growth / regeneration
